I am a huge fan of the Illusione line in general. The simplicity of the cigars combined with a consistent flavor really appeals to my narrow minded, opinionated, sharp witted palate. I have multiple boxes of the Rothchildes aging and really enjoy them very often. It seems to me the Illusione Gigante will be injected into my rotation when time permits.
The Gigantes for me is just a bigger, badder, longer smoke. The flavor profile seems familiar but not a duplicate. I am fortunate to have these in my local B&M and the owner has a good supply of them available. Open Door Cigars great people, drinks, atmosphere…….am I missing anything?
Size: 6.5 x 56
Wrapper: Mexican San Andreas
Binder: Criollo 98 (Esteli), Corojo 99 (Jalapa)
Filler: Nicaraguan Aganorsa
Prelight: The wrapper is very dark and just a sniff reveals the aroma, a little grassy with chocolate. V-cut leads to an easy draw and a bit of spice on the cap.
15 mins- a real smoke machine, this will keep the bugs away for sure. The burn line is sharp and even.
30 mins- I am reminded of cutting Christmas trees, the flavor on the finish is Cedar and a really good pairing with a black coffee. The intensity has remained in the medium to full area, which will appeal to the heavy cigar fans and the folks who like to tip toe into the heavies.
60 mins- The flavor has remained constant but I can definitely see that darker more broad full bodied characteristics of the cigar have started to emerge. The cigar has remained steady with an easy draw and great burn line.
1 hour 15 mins- This is the part of the cigar I had been waiting for, the sweet spot has arrived and so has the flavor. A dark chocolate bar wrapped in cedar.
I am giving the Illusione Gigantes 8 Smoke Rings. This is a cigar that can be enjoyed by the novice and the expert. The flavor is medium and ventures into the full without a bite. The smoke is plentiful and the price pain free. I would recommend this cigar to anyone. Dion, you have managed to do it again.
